THE ANALYSIS OF ESSAY CHARACTERISTICS FRENCH STUDENTS AS THE DEVELOPMENT MODEL GUIDELINES IN WRITING FINAL ESSAY

ABSTRACT

This article is the result of research on the characteristics of final student’s thesis at french departement, Faculty of Language and Art, Yogyakarta State University during the last 5 years (from 2011-2015), that can be used as a writing guideline by the students. This study used a descriptive approach followed by FGD activities during the conduct of research on the characteristics of the student final essay. The data in this study is the student’s thesis from 2011 to 2015, there were 214 title after going through the data reduction. The results of the analysis showed that the topics of student’s thesis and the research approach used by the students from 2011 to 2015 have been varied, although not yet significantly. The approach used by the student in analysising their data are in accordance with the problem and research objectives.
It is important to note that based on the results of the analysis is the thesis coaching period that exceeds predetermined targets (8 months). The average period of mentoring thesis is 10 months. Therefore, the effectiveness of supervision and compliance with the contract guidance need to be considered by the supervisor and students. The selecting topics needs to be done every year, so not many thesis (the research of the students) on the same topic in the same year. Thus the student’s research topics will be varied.
